On Saturday 19th September around 8 pm these lights were seen in the sky over Darwen, Lancashire. They aren't blobs on the camera, they really were orange lights moving pretty fast from left to right. They weren't planes, they weren't hot air balloons...what were they? Any suggestions gratefully received.

The only thing I can think of is has there been any airshows in the area? Maybe aircraft heading back to wherever they come from? Very definitely, for the moment at least, Unidentied Flying Objects! Ooer.
We had something similar.... they are chinese lantern type things, and they float across the sky according to wind direction, a place near us let off a whole load of them.... and yes it is EXTREMELY spooky, even when you know what they are!!! Oh and they are extremely dangerous to wildlife when they burnt out metal and plastic remnants land :-(

I have no idea - sorry!
Sky lanterns We have set some of these off recently. No plastic in ours only a very fine wire. Less dangerous than the wood from a rocket and a lot less noise.
Wow. Even knowing what they are, it must have been quite a sight!
It was a wonderful sight. The general opinion seems to be chinese lanterns, which disappoints me somewhat! Thanks for your replies.
When I was 40 I had a toy monkey bought me, something about managerial skills and the monkey on your back. However, since he came along, he has been blamed for everything, both good and bad. It could be him flying his kite with a torch attached!!!!!!!!!!
So silly but we have had many a laugh thinking up things he could be blamed for!
